Barra Beach

Barra Beach is a must-visit destination for those who wish to enjoy the sea breeze and stunning scenery. Its most iconic landmark is the Barra Lighthouse, the tallest in Portugal, standing 62 metres high. Visitors who enjoy panoramic views can visit the top of the lighthouse free of charge every Wednesday.

In addition to the lighthouse, Barra Beach is a prime spot for water sports such as surfing, thanks to its challenging waves. The wide stretch of sand also offers the perfect setting for relaxing moments by the sea. To complete the experience, visitors can enjoy the local cuisine at the beachfront restaurants, where fresh fish and seafood are unmissable specialities.

Costa Nova Beach

Costa Nova Beach is one of the most iconic destinations in the Aveiro region, known for its striped houses, the traditional palheiros. Once used by fishermen to store equipment, these colourful buildings have become one of the area’s most recognised symbols, giving it a distinctive charm.

Beyond its unique beauty, Costa Nova offers a harmonious connection between the Atlantic Ocean and the Aveiro Lagoon, providing the perfect setting for both beach leisure and water sports. The wide sandy beach invites relaxation and seaside strolls, while the lagoon promenade is ideal for walking or simply enjoying the surrounding scenery.

Costa Nova Beach is, therefore, a must-visit destination for those looking to enjoy a unique landscape, explore local culture, and experience an authentic atmosphere by the sea and the lagoon.

Whether it's the imposing Barra Lighthouse or the colourful charm of Costa Nova, these beaches offer much more than just sun and sea — they are living portraits of Aveiro’s coastal identity, where every visit becomes an unforgettable memory.
