Aveiro Museum

The Aveiro Museum / Santa Joana is one of the most important cultural spaces in the city, located in the former Convent of Jesus, where Princess Saint Joana lived and died. This historic building, featuring Manueline and Baroque architecture, houses a vast collection of sacred art, tilework, and gilded woodcarving, with the sumptuous tomb of Saint Joana standing out as a true masterpiece of Baroque sculpture with Renaissance influences.
In addition to its artistic richness, the museum offers an immersion into the religious and conventual history of Aveiro, preserving the legacy of the saint and monastic life in the region. It is an unmissable spot for those who wish to discover the city's heritage and identity.

Art Nouveau Museum

The Art Nouveau Museum is one of the most iconic cultural spaces in Aveiro, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Art Nouveau style, which marked the early 20th century. Housed in one of the city's most emblematic buildings, this museum stands out for its elegant, ornamented façade, stained glass windows, and wrought iron details, reflecting the characteristic aesthetics of this artistic movement.

Inside, visitors can explore exhibitions dedicated to design, furniture, ceramics, and decorative arts, as well as learn about the influence of Art Nouveau on Aveiro's architecture and culture.

Vista Alegre Museum

Vista Alegre Museum, located in Ílhavo, is one of the most iconic cultural spaces dedicated to porcelain in Portugal. Founded in 1824, the Vista Alegre complex includes the porcelain factory, the museum, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França, and the workers' neighborhood, forming a unique industrial and heritage ensemble.

Inside the museum, visitors can explore five exhibition galleries showcasing numerous porcelain pieces, designs, and manufacturing equipment from various periods since 1824. The museum preserves over 30,000 pieces that illustrate the evolution of Portuguese porcelain making, including the first pieces of refined glass.

In addition to the exhibitions, visitors have the opportunity to discover the secrets of this centuries-old craft through guided tours of the production process, following the ceramic product from its initial stages to the final piece.

The Ílhavo Maritime Museum

The Ílhavo Maritime Museum is one of the most important cultural spaces dedicated to the history and maritime tradition of the region. Inaugurated in 1937, this museum honors Ílhavo's strong connection to the sea, with a special focus on cod fishing and ocean navigation.

Inside, visitors can explore a vast collection of boat models, nautical instruments, historical artifacts, and photographs that document the maritime past of the Ílhavo community. One of its main attractions is the Codfish Aquarium, where it is possible to closely observe this species that is so emblematic for Portuguese gastronomy and economy.

Santo André Ship Museum

Santo André Ship Museum is a true journey into the past of cod fishing. This former side trawler, which operated for decades in the waters of Newfoundland and Greenland, has been transformed into a floating museum to preserve the memory of the Portuguese cod fishing fleet.

During the visit, it is possible to explore the ship’s various compartments, from the command bridge to the holds where the cod was stored. Each space retains its original layout, offering an authentic experience of life on board and the harsh conditions faced by the fishermen.

Aliança Underground Museum

The Aliança Underground Museum, located in the Aliança Cellars in Sangalhos, is a unique space that combines culture and wine. Created by the Bacalhôa Group, this underground museum offers a one-of-a-kind experience by bringing together art and winemaking tradition in a single tour.

During the guided visit, guests can explore diverse collections that include African art, archaeology, tilework, ceramics, and rare minerals. All of this unfolds in the impressive setting of the cellars, where Aliança’s wines and sparkling wines rest, creating a fusion of heritage and winemaking.
